The game will close and open and eventually gets stuck on a black screen. Because it freezes I have to force my laptop to shut down. I was told since I didn't have any crash logs in my sims 3 folder that it might be a hardware problem.

In an effort to give it as much memory as possible while I diagnose the problem, I have set the game to launch in windowed mode, with graphics set to potato. WebbI stayed up til the am googling solutions and came across The Sims 3 Crash Log Analyzer from Mod The Sims. I thought, 'what the heck', and installed it. When I ran it it analyzed my crash log thingies and the 'likely cause' for EVERY SINGLE ONE was "Max Memory Used-Try to reduce memory usage by lowering settings."

Also, when it can find no other reason for a crash, it will sometimes say custom content. At this point, you are getting no help from the crash analyzer.
